Chair Profile
‘As Chair of a leading Australian NFP, I supported the CEO and Board through a highly contentious international negotiation. Guiding the CEO to stay composed under pressure and ultimately emerge as the recognised leader of his peers was immensely rewarding – not only for the successful outcome, but for the personal and professional growth it brought him.’
Over nearly four decades in business and law, Andrew Want has established a reputation for ethical, ambitious and purpose-driven leadership. His career spans senior roles across professional services, financial services, data and analytics, and renewable energy, consistently delivering growth and value for shareholders, employees and communities.
Andrew began his career as a young partner in a leading Sydney law firm, where he became a top biller and built the largest team. He advised on major transactions, including the firm’s first-of-its-kind State infrastructure privatisation, and held executive responsibilities in technology, people and learning, and marketing.
Transitioning into business leadership, Andrew went on to serve as APAC CEO/Managing Director for a UK-based financial services group, overseeing rapid growth during a period of significant industry change. He was later recruited to lead an ASX200/NZX50 data and analytics company facing financial and governance challenges, restoring confidence among stakeholders and ultimately steering the business to a successful private equity sale valued at close to $1 billion.
As co-founder and CEO of an Australian solar energy technology business, Andrew has also been at the forefront of renewable energy transformation, championing the role of green hydrogen and sustainable fuels in reducing Australia’s reliance on imported fossil fuels. His international experience includes launching and operating businesses across Asia, the Pacific and the Middle East, alongside representation on industry bodies in Europe and Australia.
